Our Story
From a Neighbourhood Bar to a Ljubljana Institution
It began in the autumn of 1987, when Ivan and Marija Kovač pushed open the heavy wooden doors of their new gostilna on Trg svobode. Their dream was simple: to create the kind of place where the whole neighbourhood could gather — a place of warmth, conversation, and an honest glass of wine.
What started with six bar stools and a chalkboard menu of daily wines has grown into one of Ljubljana's most beloved institutions. Through the years, the faces change but the spirit never does. The Kovač family philosophy has held firm: pour with generosity, welcome everyone, and let the evening do the rest.
Today, the third generation of the Kovač family keeps the bar alive — the same stone walls, the same flickering candles, the same feeling that here, time slows down and the outside world can wait.
